Bio
Born November 26th, 1994 in Maui, Hawaii. I spent a lot of time drawing as a kid, it was what I did when I was alone and I did it for no other reason besides the fact that I enjoyed doing it. Looking back I can recall many people complimenting me on my art, there were even times when other kids tried to copy my art, but it wasn't until I moved to the small town of Carpinteria, California with my mom where I realized that art is not only a passion of mine but something that I could pursue as a profession. It was here where I fell in love with painting. I met my high school art teacher who introduced me to art history and new mediums, giving me full access to any supplies that she had as well as a space to sit down and immerse myself into whatever I was working on. She entered my work into student competitions which resulted in a couple of scholarships and by the end of high school, I was dead set on pursing art throughout college. Currently I work in Santa Barbara and am fortunate enough to attend Santa Barbara City College where each art class I have taken and every art professor I have had adds to my excitement of practicing art. I have found that even though the path to using my art as a profession is not always clear, when I put effort into connecting with artists that inspire me, whether it's another painter or a completely different medium such as music or literature, opportunities seem to present themselves to me and there is no better feeling than connecting with other's through my art.
Artist Statement
I mainly practice oil painting, exploring a wide variety of subject matter throughout my productions. Allured by anime, dreams, human anatomy, death and the images attached to the word, and otherworldly creatures as well as landscapes, these subjects show a paramount influence in my works. I am more attached to the cold as opposed to warmth, I aim to juxtapose beauty with the grotesque, and I find comfort in the uncomfortable when it comes to the images that I use in my art. I choose to present these themes because I feel that the unpleasant, body-crippling, stomach-wrenching, throat-tightening experiences that every human endures is just as important as the pleasant experiences and just as beautiful too. Utilizing classical drawing and painting techniques, I like to incorporate surrealism while using references to create hyper-realistic works.
